“Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it.”
Habakkuk 2:2 NKJV
The prophet was instructed to write the vision. Vision is defined according Oxford Languages: the ability to think about or plan the future with imagination or wisdom. So plainly stated when you write your vision you write the ending before you get to the beginning. In Jeremiah 1:5 God told Jeremiah:
““Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.””
Jeremiah 1:5 NKJV
Which clearly means before Jeremiah’s parents were married and before they even consummated God already planned Jeremiah’s life’s purpose for a specific time and to a specific people. So I would like to say this. You not having a vision for your own life is like setting out on a road trip with no destination, you just driving, wasting gas, wasting time and all without purpose. You have to know where you are going, what you are supposed to do and who you are supposed to impact to fulfill your purpose and destiny in God. He is the creator of all things. He knows your beginning from your end.
We have convenient tools that help us get around from point a to point b. It’s called GPS but before the GPS there was Mapquest and before Mapquest there was the Road Atlas. Now I can’t tell you how they navigated prior to the Road Atlas but I guess they used land navigation and with compasses like I was taught in the military. I do remember when I was 21 and my dad purchased my first vehicle. I flew home from the army for my grandmother’s funeral. I had to drive this car back from Illinois to Virginia. I went to the gas station and bought a road map and mapped my way back to Virginia. I had to know my destination in order to get where I was going. Along the way it wasn’t clear which exit to get off at on the Pennsylvania turnpike to get to 95 south towards DC so I stopped at a gas station and asked for assistance. Along the way you may need help. Just ask the creator of all things. He knows. Now the GPS is more advanced than the road map. It will reroute you if there is an accident ahead, as well as traffic. Now it tells you if there is a speed trap ahead. Sounds familiar. Holy Spirit will give us those gentle nudges when we are getting off track if there is danger ahead, people we need to cut off, or if there is a better wiser way.
Scripture tells us in Proverbs 29:18 “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” Many people are dying today without discovering who they are or accomplishing their dreams in life because they lacked the knowledge concerning the importance of vision. The word vision is mentioned 79 times is the Bible which means it clearly has significance pertaining to our everyday lives. Being able to see is important and as we age our vision tends to diminish and require us to wear glasses to aid us. But we can still see! That’s all that’s important. The ability to see! However vision is beyond eyesight, that is what we can see naturally, it has a spiritual connotation as well. Here’s a biblical account in 2 Kings 6:8-18 The Blinded Syrian Captured
“Now the king of Syria was making war against Israel; and he consulted with his servants, saying, “My camp will be in such and such a place.” And the man of God sent to the king of Israel, saying, “Beware that you do not pass this place, for the Syrians are coming down there.” Then the king of Israel sent someone to the place of which the man of God had told him. Thus he warned him, and he was watchful there, not just once or twice. Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was greatly troubled by this thing; and he called his servants and said to them, “Will you not show me which of us is for the king of Israel?” And one of his servants said, “None, my Lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom.” So he said, “Go and see where he is, that I may send and get him.” And it was told him, saying, “Surely he is in Dothan.” Therefore he sent horses and chariots and a great army there, and they came by night and surrounded the city. And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?” So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, and said, “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. So when the Syrians came down to him, Elisha prayed to the Lord, and said, “Strike this people, I pray, with blindness.” And He struck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.”
II Kings 6:8-18 NKJV
